What happened
The existing plant serves Cambridge and surrounding villages and sits within the North East Cambridge regeneration area. The proposed relocation received development consent in April 2025 but was cancelled in August 2025 after Housing Infrastructure Fund support was withdrawn. Anglian Water states that it is reviewing alternatives to increase capacity at the existing plant. Historical odour reports exist but the available evidence refers to only five operator-recorded complaints in one earlier reporting period.
