For listed companies and their advisors

The evidence has to hold up
when the report is filed.

FCA Policy Statement PS26/19 (30 September 2026) requires certain listed companies to report against UK Sustainability Reporting Standards S1 and S2 on a comply-or-explain basis. The rules apply to accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027. First reporting is in 2028.

What changes, and who is covered

This is a listed-company reporting change, not a blanket requirement for every UK business. It applies to issuers in the commercial companies, transition, non-equity / non-voting equity shares, and international commercial secondary listing and depositary receipts categories. Existing TCFD-aligned climate reporting is replaced. Transitional reliefs exist: one year for Scope 3 emissions and two years for wider non-climate disclosures under UK SRS S1. Check your listing category and reporting obligations with your advisers.

Read the FCA’s PS26/19 statement and the government’s BNG guidance. BioVeracity helps organise evidence; it does not determine your reporting duties or replace professional assessment.

Where the evidence problem sits

Biodiversity Net Gain

BNG records that last

In England, off-site gains and significant on-site habitat enhancements must be secured for at least 30 years. A dated record of surveys, management work and changes can also inform relevant sustainability disclosures. BNG and UK SRS are separate obligations; one record does not automatically satisfy both.

UK SRS S1 & S2

Comply or explain needs a trail

An explanation is only as strong as the evidence behind it. When site photographs, survey reports and operational notes are scattered across inboxes and shared drives, answering a reviewer’s question takes longer. Keep the original source, date and context together so the team can find them again.

Start with the next reporting period

For companies in scope, the next accounting period is a practical starting point. Decide which sites and records matter, who supplies them, and how gaps will be recorded. Collect the material as work happens, rather than reconstructing it before filing.

Talk about your site

A narrow, measured pilot

One workflow. One set of sites or assets. A fixed six-week duration. The output is a dated timeline with links to its sources, a list of missing evidence, and a comparison of review time against your current process. Your team decides which material is relevant to a disclosure or BNG management plan.

Scope

Up to three evidence streams (site surveys, regulatory notices, operational records). One portfolio or catchment. Standard template. No custom build.

Price

£3,000 for six weeks. Scope and terms agreed before starting. Review the results together before deciding on an ongoing subscription; there is no automatic conversion.

Proof

Choose a repeatable review task and record how long it takes today. Repeat it at the end of the pilot and report the time saved, source coverage and remaining gaps.

Start with a conversation. We’ll agree the scope before you commit.
