What happened
Seafield WWTW processes a reported 265 million litres of wastewater per day. It is operated by Veolia under a PFI arrangement. The £10 million Seafield Sludge Investment Project is intended to add storage capacity and move odorous sludge from open areas into covered, extracted facilities. Construction is scheduled to start in summer 2026 and finish by end-2027. The City of Edinburgh Council investigates strong and persistent sewerage odours. SEPA addresses odour associated with waste treatment.
