What happened
Port of Cork's central proof-of-effect opportunity is Ringaskiddy. The Cork Container Terminal opened in September 2022. In July 2024, the port was selected for €38.4 million of Connecting Europe Facility support for berth extensions intended to increase capacity and support offshore renewable energy. The port redevelopment received ten-year planning permission in May 2015. Subsequent changes to handling methods and berth design required further environmental assessment. This creates a long evidence history in which approved design assumptions, later alterations and actual construction effects need to be reconciled.
